Act published allows videoconference for hearings at the small claims court

During the pandemic, one of the priorities is to avoid overcrowding keeping people as much as possible at home or at the office. In that spirit, Act 13.994 was published in the Official Gazzete in April 27, 2020 modifying Act 9.099 of September 26, 1995 to allow the remote conciliation at the small claims court (JEC) throughout the country. The Act also provides for, if conciliation is achieved, the conditions shall be ratified by the Judge through a sentence with enforceable title effectiveness.   Also according to the same Act, if the demanded party does not show up or refuse to participate in the tentative remote conciliation, the judge shall sentence without hearing the party. Read more
