As of May 26, 2025, all companies operating in Brazil will be required to incorporate the assessment of psychosocial risks—such as occupational stress, moral harassment, and work overload—into their Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management processes. This requirement stems from the update of Regulatory Standard No. 1 (NR-1), issued by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) in August 2024.

The measure reinforces the importance of creating healthy work environments, with an emphasis on promoting employees’ mental health, which directly contributes to reducing work-related absences and increasing productivity. Companies that already adopt best practices in the prevention of psychosocial risks are expected to adapt more easily to the new regulatory requirements.

With this update, the Ministry of Labor and Employment aims to establish the management of psychosocial risks as a core element of OHS strategies, fostering safer, more balanced, and sustainable working conditions.
